I am very excited to be a member of the Silver Creek Elementary school family, as a fifth grade teacher. One reason I enjoy teaching fifth grade is because students learn about why and how our amazing country was founded as well as the diverse stories of the first Americans. Additionally, it is rewarding to work with students as they grow and prepare for middle school.
I am a Colorado native, and grew up in Denver. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Finance, from the University of Iowa, returned to Colorado, and was a financial analyst for 13 years. During that time, I had two children, and when they entered elementary school, I began volunteering in their classrooms. My passion for teaching sprouted, and I attended the University of Colorado to earn a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After graduation, I was hired by the Adams 12 school district, and I have taught third, fourth and fifth grades during my 18 years of service.
As mentioned before, I have a son, Trent, who is married, and just started his Family Practice Residency at a hospital in Oklahoma City. My daughter, Jenna, is attending the Marion University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis. So, my husband Tom, my dog, Ollie, and I don't get to see them very often, so we have some spare time. Ususally, we have a house updating project going on, but when I have down time, I like to play tennis, hike, ski, read, cook, and hang out with friends.
I am looking forward to getting to know my students and the community, and building strong relationships which will lead to great learning and achievement.
