I am very excited to be starting my third year as fifth grade teacher in the Silver Creek Elementary school family. One reason I enjoy teaching fifth grade is because students learn about why and how our amazing country was founded as well as the diverse stories of the first Americans. Additionally, it is rewarding to work with students as they grow and prepare for middle school.
I am a Colorado native, and grew up in Denver. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Finance, from the University of Iowa, returned to Colorado, and was a financial analyst for 13 years. During that time, I had two children, and when they entered elementary school, I began volunteering in their classrooms. My passion for teaching sprouted, and I attended the University of Colorado to earn a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After graduation, I was hired by the Adams 12 school district, and I have taught third, fourth and fifth grades during my 19 years of service.
As mentioned before, I have a son, Trent, who is married, and is in his final year of his Medical Residency at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City. His wife, Jenna, is a Physical Therapist, and they are expecting their first baby in January! My daughter, Jenna, is in her first year of Medical Residency at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. (Yes, crazy coincidence that my daughter and daughter-in-law are both named Jenna Jarvis!) So, my husband Tom, my dog, Ollie, and I don't get to see any them very often, so we have some spare time. In my free time, I like to play tennis, hike, ski, read, cook, and hang out with friends.
I am looking forward to getting to know my students and families, and I'm especially excited to see you all face to face!!
