I grew up in Wichita Kansas and it was there that I got my first position at a school. As paraprofessional for five 4th grade teachers I got to do many hands-on and creative assignments. Grading papers, creating bulletin boards and designing whole-language units of study were just a few of my favorites! It was a couple of years after that when I accepted a position as an interpreter of the deaf and worked with kindergarten students. Learning sign language and being able to put it to use as a career was a dream fulfilled for me. I spent the next few years interpreting in KS and NE before a job transfer brought us to CO. Joining the Adams 12 School District led me to work at both Northeast and Westlake Middle Schools here in our area and becoming EIPA Certified Interpreter for the Deaf. Working with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students was challenging and amazing at the same time!
After adopting two little girls from China, I decided to be home full time. In the years I've been home, I've been very involved here at Silver Creek as a parent, volunteer, and PTO board member. You probably will see me out doing crossing guard duty or Friday folders or perhaps helping out at a fun spirit night at Chick-fil-A. Now, I am back and duties include recess and lunch supervision which allows me to interact with some amazing kiddos. While one of our daughters has left Silver Creek and is now in the 6th grade at Rocky Top, the best part is that I still have my youngest daughter here at SCE in the fourth grade, and also my granddaughter attends full day kindergarten!
